Thanks Michael for posting this faded glory themed pic to #LuxvilleTales. Here is your story.
A Lamp Darkly.
The nightclub was thick with mood when her rumoured presence rippled inward from the door. She arrived encased by crew, her blond pony just visible through a phalanx of black leather and shades. Like a full-circle skirt, each time she tilted her head, the throng swished and swayed, a hard-edged joyless mass.
She didn’t ever speak, just lifting her shades long enough for recognition, followed by frenzied whispering. The doors were opened wide to allow the whole body through without thinning. It slid over the steps, the dance floor, shifting anything in its path without touching. The rumour an undercurrent before her, to the beat from the desk.
In a small alcove the entourage slowly spread out, leaving her to sit, alone. She didn’t talk. She observed the crowd from her vantage point, unassailable. They went back to what they were doing, not a murmur when only mock-tails were served. She watched them all watching her. The beat the only thing connecting them.
The mood had quickly dimmed to small pools of light. The lamp at her table dark. She still wore her shades.
Brittany was here.
Apparently.

This tale is dedicated to Eve Nightclub, closing after ten years in Melbourne, to become an apartment development site. And a story I heard about Brittany Spears!
Please Note: The #LuxvilleTales are generated from reader contributed images. Post me an image themed ‘faded glory’ and I will write you a short tale.
